Membership Insights & Collaboration Strategist

POSITION OVERVIEW

At BLIS, we believe that data is a powerful tool for solidarity building, measuring impact, and deepening alignment across movements.

The Membership Insights and Collaboration Strategist will play a central role in leveraging data as a tool for power-building, internal coordination, storytelling, and resource distribution. 

You’ll design and manage systems that help our Collective members connect, collaborate, and align around shared narrative and movement strategies. You will lead the development of a network and movement -theory-informed measurement framework to assess the health, alignment, and solidarity of our growing membership. You’ll also collect and analyze data across our membership and the Radical Collaboration Fund, our member-led regranting initiative designed to fuel bold, cross-movement collaboration, and help us tell the story of our collective impact on narrative, policy, and culture. 

This is a multi-hyphenate role that lives at the intersection of network analysis, impact measurement, relationship building, and participatory grantmaking. You’ll help make the power of our members and the story of BLIS more visible, measurable, and actionable.


ABOUT BLIS COLLECTIVE

The BLIS Collective (Black Liberation-Indigenous Sovereignty) is a Solidarity and Action Hub that braids narratives and grows movements. Our mission is to spark radical collaboration and narrative alignment between and within Black, Indigenous, and transformative social movements to repair, decolonize, and reshape culture. 

BLIS advances a long-term inside and outside power-building strategy that activates narrative research, national and local coalition building, cultural production, capacity building, and braiding solidarity across a multi-movement membership network, all to build a culture of solidarity and pass transformative policies. 

Our membership network is made up of national and local organizations, cultural workers, researchers, and strategists committed to the principles of repair, redistribution, and solidarity. 

Savannah Romero and Trevor Smith founded the BLIS Collective in 2022. It is a fiscally sponsored project of Possibility Labs. 

ABOUT POSSIBILITY LABS (PL)

BIPOC-led movements and power-building initiatives, as well as funders and donors who want to fund BIPOC-led social movement groups, need adequate and values-aligned infrastructure to gather and deploy money at the speed and scale necessary to build the power needed to create a world where BIPOC and historically low-income communities have self-determination, clean air, clean water, and clean energy.

Possibility Labs’ mission is to accelerate and empower community-driven solutions that are built, led, and governed by and for low-income and BIPOC communities, by providing the essential financial and legal infrastructure to manage and move integrated capital to BIPOC-led movement groups. We aim to advance racial, gender, and climate justice and a new economy where everyone thrives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Strategy & Impact Storytelling

  • Develop a network and movement theory-informed framework to measure the strength, depth, and breadth of solidarity across the Collective, including indicators of reciprocity, alignment, and relational infrastructure.

  • Design collaborative and relational data collection practices that support BLIS and members of the Collective and ensure BLIS’s data collection reflects principles of data sovereignty, consent, and care.

  • Collaborate with the Research team to translate qualitative and quantitative insights into compelling briefs that reflect the power, reach, and solidarity of the BLIS Collective.

  • Establish clear protocols and create space for ongoing conversations about data ownership, transparency, security, and consent within the Collective and across the broader movement ecosystem.

Radical Collaboration Fund Impact Measurement

  • Alongside members of the Collective, the BLIS team, and external consultants, we develop an impact framework to track the Fund's impact through a mixed-methods evaluation system. 

  • Organize and facilitate member-only Solidarity Gyms, the BLIS Collective’s core internal program, which seeks to strengthen solidarity and co-create narrative and cultural strategies. 

  • Bring a data-driven lens to participatory funding processes, including identifying gaps, learning across cycles, and building accountability through shared metrics. 

  • Support on logistical, administrative, and operational management of the Radical Collaboration Fund, ensuring timely processes and strong documentation. 

Insight-Driven Membership Support

  • Work closely with the Director of Membership and Radical Collaboration to translate insights into opportunities for collaboration across the Collective. 

  • Maintain an up-to-date network view of relationships and projects underway across the Collective, and utilize insights to identify potential opportunities for collaboration and solidarity-building within the Collective.

  • Monitor public discourse and pop culture trends to spot high-leverage moments for cross-movement solidarity. 

  • Help identify and document emerging narratives, patterns, and insights from member interactions to inform the continuous development of shared strategies.

  • Support the creation of an environment that fosters trust, belonging, and healing across the Collective. 

Supervisory Responsibility

The Membership Insights and Collaboration Strategist does not have formal supervisory responsibilities and sits within the Membership Circle, reporting to the Director of Membership and Radical Collaboration. BLIS is actively moving toward a sociocratic organizational model, where decision-making is shared strategically, consent is prioritized, and all voices are valued in shaping strategy, policy, and practice. Leadership at BLIS is understood as collective and relational, rather than strictly hierarchical. 

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, fully remote position. Standard BLIS Collective office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., based on the time zone where you are based. While we prioritize work-life balance, some flexibility in hours may be required to accommodate meetings or deadlines across different time zones. 

TRAVEL 

This position requires some domestic travel, approximately 10-20% of the time.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience working with data systems, evaluation, impact tracking, or data-informed strategy in a social justice, movement, or advocacy context. 

  • Ability to make sense of network data and explain it simply (how connected we are, which links are strongest, who the go-to connectors are, etc) and translate it into practical recommendations for the Collective.

  • Ability to design surveys and interviews and summarize results in clear briefs.

  • Strong understanding of how data can be used to track impact on narrative, policy, cultural change, and movement alignment. 

  • Familiarity with building internal systems or dashboards that support coordination, engagement, and storytelling across teams or networks. 

  • Experience (or eagerness to learn) with participatory grantmaking processes and shared metrics. 

  • Demonstrated ability to support solidarity, mutual aid, and trust-building efforts. 

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage timelines, logistics, and relationships across multiple initiatives. 

  • A commitment to reparations, Land Back, economic justice, and the potential of data, storytelling, and shared infrastructure.

YOU SHOULD APPLY IF

  • You get excited about measuring things that are hard to measure, like alignment, solidarity, resonance, or network health. 

  • You have a strong data, measurement, or systems-building background and want to use those skills in the service of building collective power, shifting narrative terrains, and supporting groups working on Land Back, reparations, guaranteed income, and baby bonds. 

  • You’ve led or participated in participatory grantmaking, collaborative funding, or mutual aid efforts, and believe resourcing movements should reflect the values we hope to see across society. 

  • You’re fluent in tools like Airtable, Notion, Tableau, or data dashboards, and you’re interested in exploring how to make data more meaningful and accessible to movement and narrative workers. 

  • You possess a deep understanding of liberatory measurement practices, data sovereignty, and trust-based storytelling that honors the individuals behind the insights. 

    You want to be part of a team that dreams big, tackles complexity, works hard, laughs often, and knows that solidarity is a strategy, a practice, and a political orientation.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The starting salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 and is commensurate with experience. The BLIS Collective offers an excellent benefits package, including comprehensive healthcare with a national network, vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
